TopTenREVIEWS

Rounding out our #10 spot is Fultus.com. The Fultus POD package is very affordable but doesn't offer much in the way of publishing services.

Publishing Package:   Excellent

With a fast overall publishing timeframe, Fultus.com can publish a paperback book in an average of three to four weeks. They also offer royalty rates of 25 percent of the cover price on books sold through their bookstore and a 15 percent royalty of the cover price on books sold through third-party retailers.

The publishing services that come as part of the Fultus POD package include manuscript formatting, barcode creation, original cover design and assignment of an ISBN number. You also get five free author copies of your book with this package and author discounts when purchasing your own book.

Bookselling Reach:   Excellent

With only a hundred titles in print, Fultus came in dead last out of the services we reviewed. As far as distribution, Fultus.com uses both Baker & Taylor, Inc. and Ingram Book Group, giving 25,000-plus retailers access to its books. This service also sports its own onsite bookstore and sells through online retailers like Amazon.com, Borders.com, Booksamillion.com and BarnesandNoble.com.

Additional Paid Services:   Excellent

Although many are not listed on their site, Fultus claims to offer a large number of services at an additional charge, including editorial evaluations, copyediting, copyright registration, assignment of Library of Congress Control number, ghost writing, printing in both color and hardcover, ebook formatting and expedited publishing. You can also pay to have original art created for your book's cover design and illustrations, receive custom interior image placement and purchase a CD ROM archive of your book.

On the promotional end of things, Fultus.com reported to offer press release writing, public appearance and interview arrangement. You can also pay to have copies of your book sent out for critical review or have marketing materials created in the form of full-color posters, single-sheet flyers, invitations, email messages, business cards, bookmarks and postcards.

Fultus also offers co-op advertising through The New York Times Book Review and has book marketing literature available for purchase. There are a few, paid online marketing services available too, including web domain registration, website design and web-banner and web-button design.

Help/Support:   Excellent

Although Fultus supports its authors through FAQs, email support and an online form, it does not offer a toll-free support number, which we feel is paramount in the book publishing industry.

Summary:

Although it's inexpensive, Fultus.com is barely worth the money. We suggest spending the money and going with a service like iUniverse, who not only gives you a lot for your money, but let's you call them-FOR FREE-when you need help.
